Summer brings heat, but it also brings an abundance of ripe, juicy fruit. The sweet scent of Manila mangoes alone makes the season worthwhile. When mangoes are in season they’re sweeter, juicier, and more affordable — perfect for transforming into cool treats and beverages.

I recently found a case of Manila mangoes for a bargain and spent the weekend experimenting with easy mango desserts and drinks. If you want ideas beyond this nectar, try a quick mango royale for an elegant dessert, or a no-churn mango ice cream for deeply concentrated mango flavor. Mango bread loaf is another great option for breakfast or coffee time.

What is Mango Nectar

Mango nectar is a simple tropical drink made from fresh mango pulp and sweetened with a clear simple syrup. It’s bright, slightly tangy, and sweet — a classic cooling beverage for warm days.

Unlike many store-bought nectars that contain stabilizers, added flavors, and preservatives, this homemade version uses only three wholesome ingredients: ripe mangoes, water, and sugar. It’s easy to make and tastes like fresh mangoes.

Easy instructions

  1. Make a simple syrup: combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir and bring to a gentle simmer until the sugar dissolves and the liquid turns clear. Remove from heat and cool completely.
  2. Prepare the mangoes: slice and scoop the mango flesh, discarding the pits and skins. Place the mango flesh in a blender or food processor and process until smooth.
  3. Combine and chill: pour the mango puree into a pitcher, add the cooled simple syrup, and stir until fully combined. Refrigerate until chilled. Serve over ice and enjoy.

Quick tip

For the best texture and sweetest flavor, use Ataulfo or Manila mangoes. They have a velvety, less fibrous flesh that blends smoothly into a silky nectar.
